Imagine your kid’s beaming smile when they see their newly transformed, cartoon themed kids bedroom decor. Are you getting that warm glow? … Screech, your glow turns icy as you picture days and weeks of upheaval and mess and disruption while you perform this miraculous make-over. So what if you could find a blueprint that promises you only 10 hours of work to achieve your kids bedroom decor dream?  Well here it is.

Hour 1 – Planning

Do your research on the internet to ensure bedroom accessories for your kid’s favourite cartoon hero are for sale. Pricerighthome.com offers a great range of home and kids bedroom decorating products at great prices. They stock in excess of 1000 different items so you should be able to find what you need. Alternatively Amazon are another good place to start.

Set a budget for kids bedroom decorations and order your favourite accessories. As an ideal minimum you will need curtains, a duvet cover & pillowcase, wall stickers and a lightshade, costing around £60. But if you are feeling excessive, the sky is the limit!

Ben 10 Bedroom Theme IdeasHour 2 – Colour Matching

  • Do a Google Image Search for your kid’s cartoon hero.
  • Print off a selection of about 10 relevant images.
  • Review them for two background colours that define your theme character.

Background colours are best to work with if you want to avoid colour disasters such as brown walls if you were trying to match to Scooby Doo.

As an example, if you are trying to create a Ben 10 bedroom, your two main colours would be bold green and yellow.  There are likely to be numerous colours you could choose from, so select those that are most likely to appeal to your kid whilst avoiding those that are clashing or garish.

Hour 3 – Paint Shopping

Check you already have the equipment you need for painting the walls such as rollers, brushes and plastic sheets to cover the floor. Then visit the B&Q website to order your paint and any necessary equipment. Review the One Coat paints first to find a close match for your chosen colours or their standard paint choices if you cannot find a suitable One Coat match. If you order online you can confirm stock levels and arrange to collect from your nearest store.

If you are short of storage in your kids bedroom consider purchasing some clear storage boxes that you can theme up later. Some corkboard is another good buy while you are online.

Hour 4 – Clear Out Your Kids Bedroom

Move the furniture and toys out of the bedroom to another room or the landing and lay down the plastic sheets to protect the floor.

Hours 5 to 7 – Paint The Walls

If you have purchased two shades of paint, paint alternate walls in each colour to create a two tone effect.  If you only purchased one shade … you know what to do! Using the bold colours often found in cartoons, you will soon see the dramatic impression you are giving to the bedroom.

Hour 8 – Return The Furniture To The Bedroom

Ideally you will move onto Hour 8 the following day when the paint has dried.  When moving the furniture back into the bedroom, ensure you do not damage the new paintwork.

Hour 9 – Accessorise

  • Start building your theme effect by making the bed with the themed duvet and complimenting pillow case.
  • Boost the window area by hanging the new themed curtains.
  • Use kids bedroom wall decor such as themed wall stickers to spruce up the walls. Arrange them into action packed scenes. Let your kid get creative by helping. You can also use themed borders, art squares and posters to make a bold and colourful background.
  • Fix the new themed light shade or place a new themed bedside lamp.

Hour 10 – The Finishing Touches

Go the extra mile to make your kid feel special with such a fabulously decorated bedroom:

  • Fasten some corkboard and create a collage with the themed pictures you printed in Hour 2. Leave some blank space and encourage your kid to fill it with their own drawings.
  • Enhance the floor area with one of the many themed or matching coloured large childrens rugs.
  • Create a reading nook with a themed or matching coloured beanbag or cushion.
  • Spruce up the storage boxes, wardrobes or drawers by decorating them with themed pictures.
  • Increase the storage options by fixing theme coloured hooks to the back of the door.
  • Transform some theme coloured hanging baskets into perfect, easy to hang storage.
  • Create an area to showcase your kid’s cartoon hero toys and drawings.
  • Suggest a craft project for some fun, family time, to build a themed headquarters out of a box or perhaps under a desk.
  • You could even buy some themed furniture – I know a car bed would go down a treat with my son.

So go ahead, start transforming your kids dull bedroom into a cartoon hero headquarters today. The use of bedding and accessories will create a rich and practical style. Make your colour schemes fun and inspirational, creating a real sense of drama. A kids bedroom is not just a room to sleep in, it is their comfort zone. Make it special.

If you make over your kids bedroom or have any other practical ideas to share I’d love to hear them. Please leave me a comment.
